Plans in Seville: from October to December 2017

 Are you looking for cultural ideas to enjoy more of Seville? We highly recommend the following to enjoy culture in the city during the upcoming months. 

 

Opera 

  • Fidelio by Ludwig van Beethoven at the Maestranza Theatre. 24, 27 and 30 October at 20:30. The popular opera set in a prison in Seville is one of the most interesting shows of this season. This is a production of the Maestranza Theatre, opening the lyrical season on a high note. More information on tickets and prices here.
     

 

Music

  • Italienische Reise Concert by the Baroque Orchestra of Seville at the Espacio Turina. 3 and 4 of November at 20:30. The cellist Kristin van der Goltz will join the Baroque Orchestra of Seville, having been recognized with the National Music Prize in 2011, where she will perform works by Vivaldi, Hasse and Porpora. An essential event for those who enjoy classical music. Tickets from €16.

 

 

 

  • Festival Fado Festival. October 14, November 21 and December 5. The third edition of the Fado Festival will bring back a representative sample of the Portuguese fado and its culture to Seville. The festival includes exhibits, film screenings, conferences, and concerts. The activities will be divided between the headquarters of the Consulate of Portugal and the Lope de Vega Theatre. Admission is free for all activities except concerts, where you can see the performances of Gisela João, Camané and Katia Guerreiro. 

 

 

Dance

  • Swan Lake at the Maestranza Theatre. November 4 at 20:30. The show, directed by Sergei Radchenko, presents itself as an ideal occasion to see the refined techniques of the Russian National Ballet. This fairy tale was the first ballet composed by Tchaikovsky. More info about the show and tickets here.

 

Cinema

  • European Film Festival. From the 3rd to the 11th of November. The fourteenth edition of the festival is presented as an inescapable event for lovers of the seventh art. Not only is it an event where you can discover new talents in European cinema, but to be able to look back and see European cult films on the big screen. This year the festival honours the figures of Margarida Cordeiro and António Reis. More info on locations and tickets here. 

 

Art Exhibitions

 

  • A garden to Paint by Joaquín Sorolla Exhibit at the Caixa Forum Sevilla. Until October 15th. The show captures the fascination the painter had with Andalusian patios and gardens. It is an excellent opportunity to get a better look at the work of one of the greatest proponents of Spanish luminism. You can visit it with the general pass, the family visit or the guided visit.   • Murillo and the Portrait Exhibit at the Espacio Santa Clara. Until December 31. This is one of the celebrations of the fourth centenary of the birth of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. Without a doubt, it is a great way to learn more about the Sevillian artist’s paintings. More info. 

 

 

  • Murillo and the Capuchins of Seville Exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville. From November 18 to April 2018. This is another of the commemorative acts for the figure of the Sevillian painter. It is also a great opportunity to discover the permanent collection of one of the most important pinnacles in Spain and its area of ​​restoration.
     

 

 

 

  • Ergo Sum Video Exhibit by Peter Campus at the CAAC (Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art). Until January 21, 2018. Peter Campus is one of the most relevant pioneers in video art. To visit it is to launch yourself on a journey of exploration and reflection through the perception of electronic and digital images. It is a unique exhibition, since it is the first time the work of Peter Campus travels to Spain. The installations’ characteristics make it a difficult work to transport.
     

 

Theatre

  • Nightly shows staged at the Real Alcázar. Until October 27th. The theatrical performances will be produced by the Classic Theatre Company of Seville and last around 75 minutes. If you want to be immersed in history, this guided tour is one of the best ways to get to know a monument declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The visit has a cost of 13 Euros. Tickets can be purchased here. 

 

  

  • Varied Programming at the Lope de Vega Theatre. From October to December a multitude of plays will be released. You can see the theatrical performances like the Lights of Bohemia, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, or “Duelo a muerte del marqués de Pickman” (Duel to Death of the Marquis of Pickman).   • Varied Programming in the Central Theatre. There are many cultural ideas offered by the Central. In addition to concerts, dance and circus, the theatre composes most of its programming. Their commitment to contemporary creations is seen in works such as “Mujer no reeducable” (Non-reducible Woman) - directed by Lluís Pascual, one of the most recognized directors on the scene in Spain - or the exclusive premiere in our country of Belgian Rules, a combination of theatre, music, visual arts and dance. Books

  • Old and Used Book Fair in Plaza Nueva. From November 17 to December 10. Those passionate about paper will be able to go around the fair discovering rarities, collectibles and much more. This year the event celebrates its 40 years of existence for which the House of Poets and Letters, belonging to ICAS, prepares a special series for the anniversary and its influence in the city.
